1. What these terms cover

TriniKwéyòl is a free, non-commercial project to help preserve and teach Trinidadian French Creole (Patois / Patwa / Kwéyòl). These terms cover the TriniKwéyòl website and the TriniKwéyòl apps for iPhone, iPad and Android. By using the website or an app you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use them. If you got an app from an app store, that store's own terms also apply.

2. Content, accuracy and honesty

Every Creole word, phrase and letter is shown exactly as recorded in its documented source or by a consenting community speaker, after review by a named human validator. We do not generate, "correct" or invent Creole. The corpus is small and grows over time; where we lack something, we say so rather than guessing. Content is provided as documented, without any warranty that it is complete, and it may be corrected as validators review it.

3. Ownership

Trinidadian French Creole belongs to its speaker community. Words, knowledge and recordings contributed by speakers remain the moral property of their contributors and of the community; consent and attribution are recorded for every recording. The project claims no ownership of the language.

4. Reusing what you see here

Unless a page says otherwise, the text of the website and the apps is © the TriniKwéyòl project, all rights reserved. You may quote short passages and individual entries for personal study, teaching, research or commentary, provided you credit "TriniKwéyòl" and the entry's stated source. You may not copy the corpus in bulk, republish substantial parts of it, or present any of it as your own. These reuse terms are provisional and will be revisited once the project's agreement with the speaker community is in place.

Material from third-party sources — including the published book and the official alphabet poster credited on the Sources & credits page — is used with permission and attribution and is not relicensed by this project. Rights in that material remain with its authors and publishers.

5. Acceptable use

• Do not use automated tools to copy the website or the apps in bulk, or to overload the website.
• Do not present content from the website or the apps as verified by anyone other than the validators credited here.
• Do not use the website or the apps to misrepresent the language, its speakers or its community.

6. No warranty; limitation

The website and the apps are provided free of charge and "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, the project and its contributors are not liable for any loss arising from their use or reliance on their content. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

7. Changes

We may update these terms when the website or the apps change — for example when a lookup feature or app accounts are introduced. The version and effective date at the top of this page will change.
