TriniKwéyòl on WhatsApp
The line is not open yet
We are getting a WhatsApp line ready so anyone can ask for a Trinidadian French Creole word and get an answer from the verified corpus, with its source. It is not open yet, and this page is where it will appear — so a printed code or a saved link keeps working when it opens.
Meanwhile, everything verified so far is here: the dictionary and the word of the day.
What you can ask for
- A word or a short phrase, from the verified corpus, with its meaning and source.
- The word of the day.
- To offer a word your family uses, so our validators can consider it.
- To volunteer an elder, or yourself, for a recording session.
- To tell us an entry looks wrong.
What the line will not do
- Invent Creole. If a word is not in the verified corpus, we say so and note the request, rather than guessing.
- Translate whole sentences. The corpus is words and short phrases, checked one at a time.
- Keep voice notes. Recordings are made at a session, with a consent form, so the speaker decides how their voice is used.
- Take payments in a message, or message you about anything you did not ask for.
The word of the day
A WhatsApp Channel for the word of the day is planned, and its link will appear here. The same word is already on Today.
Your privacy
If you message the line, the people who answer it see your WhatsApp number, your profile name and what you send. We keep the conversation, a label such as "word request", and monthly counts. Words people ask for are recorded in English with nothing about who asked. We do not sell or share anything, we do not keep voice notes, and "STOP" ends every message from us. The full details are in our Privacy Policy, and WhatsApp's own privacy policy covers what WhatsApp itself collects.
Other ways to reach us are on Support.
